Introduction

The problem

People might have to move from their own country to a different country, from one state/city to another, or change apartments at least once in a lifetime and it is not at all an easy task. Moving to a new place is stressful and it is a big step.

There are various aspects that one has to keep in mind before, during, and after moving, such as transport and packaging, Searching house or rent, Location information, etc., which can be very stressful and physically exhausting.

Challenges

Move focuses on making the whole process of relocation much simpler, stress-free, and easily manageable by creating a planned step-wise method, providing information, guiding how to stay focused, and completing the entire process systematically.

“How Might we help people by providing the best service that plans their entire moving process and accesses reliable resources and information relating to the new place- which includes affordable renting/housing options, schools, education, health institutions, transit, job, crime rate etc.?”

Goals

The Research goal is to avail better solutions, contacts, information regarding relocating, under one platform so that the searching and learning process for the users become easier.

There will also be better business growth opportunities for the vendors or other various business models linked to this platform, e.g.- the transporters, moving services, packing and unpacking organizers, renters and housing sectors, time managers etc.

There can be a business to business (b2b) option for the moving arrangments provided/sponsored by various organizations and then reaching to the users.

Guiding and supporting the users for a stress-free moving process.

that came out from the interviews are:

Define

Initial Conceptualization and Insights

Putting all the above pain points and challenges altogether the key insights from the research are:

  • People relocate due to various reasons, it can be due to jobs, education, lifestyle, etc. If all these sectors could be bonded together by a single service people would find it much easier to approach.

  • If there was a business-to-business service that connects to various organizations, institutes, and corporate offices, it would be easy access for users.

  • The service catering to various ranges of users should customize their needs accordingly to make the moving much smoother and hassle-free.

Story Boarding

  • Instant help through virtual assistance.

  • Easy and smooth steps. Not a complex process.

  • A task planner for organizing and managing the search results.

Hi!

Persona 1

meet Arnav and Michella, they need to relocate to a new place for different reasons and needs! Arnav is a student relocated to a new country for his studies where as Michella has to move because of her husband’s job switch and she is more focused on her daughter’s schooling. The personas are selected based on the situation related to the project.

Persona 2

I chose to create two different types of story boards based on two different situations for relocation to depict a visual representation of the user’s journey through a relocation service.

User Task Flows and Site Mapping

Initially, my site map was getting too complex, so I tried to narrow it down to this present site map with distinguished pages and the categories underneath.

Initially, I started sketching out four main task flows for how a user would interact with the in-app search options. The search options are available once the user logs in or signs up to create their profile and then achieves the results according to the location input since it was important for users to easily navigate from the homepage to the search page without having any confusion.

Wireframing- Initial Sketches

Initially, I explored my concepts and ideas through hand sketching and illustrations by sketching out low-fi wireframes based on the specific tasks - Login - Sign up- Subscribe - Search - Support.

I was trying to focus on the needs and accessibilities and keeping that in mind I tried to keep the virtual assistance - Chat Box, to serve 24 hrs on every page.

Let’s Begin with the Design

Mid - Fidelity Wireframing

Here I fixed the alignment of the images and texts along with buttons.

I seperated the pages according to the structure followed from the site map and user-task flows.

Since this service works both as a tie up with an organization or as an individual , I tried to give the options of selecting either of them while creating the profile.

Branding and Style Tile

For this project, I selected the topic: “Moving to a new place “ as I felt -      the Personas mentioned are in a situation where they are stressed and anxious while moving thus, these balancing and refreshing color palette will help them enjoy the service and make the process stress free.

So with this in mind, I decided to do my project on relocation. After brainstorming names to call the brand, which included Movemate, We Move, and Move, I decided to name the brand just Move- which is simplistic and straightforward, the logo.

As the moving process is very hectic and stressful, I tried to keep the product visually calm and soothing, with happy-fun yellow-orange tones as secondary color as well as a cool refreshing blue color as primary.

The text style is bolder and cleaner, to make it easy to read!

“It is really easy; I do not really need to search a lot to complete a task. Everything was right in front of me. I find this experience to be very seamless.” -Usability Tester

Final Designs
  • Throughout the web app design process, the main focus was to simplify and manage the process by creating a step-by-step method, providing information, and guiding how to stay focused.

  • During interviews, I found that people have different needs when moving for work, education, or family reasons. It's important for the solution to cater to these diverse needs.

  • The most challenging part was connecting the links between the various pain points. Each participant had different reasons and vital information relating to the moving process, so their stories and needs differed from each other.
